New update for iphone???

Only version in itunes is 1.0. I have downloaded books, but the player says not downloaded. All forums say version 2.1 fixes issues, but I can't find version 2.1.

The iPhone release is the first release for the iPhone. It does not yet have all the same features that are available in the Android release.

We have had a number of users report issues with downloading books using the iPhone player, but then not being able to play the book. We have temporarily pulled the application from the iPhone market until we determine what is causing this problem. We hope to have an updated version out soon which will fix this problem that some people are seeing where the books that are downloaded cannot be played.

We have spent some time tracking down the cause of the problems people are seeing with the iPhone version. It appears that some of the problems are because in several places the use of controls on the iPhone version are not obvious. The iPhone does not have MENU or BACK buttons like the Android does, so things which were on these Android buttons show up in different ways in the iPhone version.

One of the biggest causes of confusion seems to be that to select a book to listen to from the library you currently have to press the > character shown after the book title. Pressing on the book title brings up a menu with several items, but the menu does not include a play option. If you press the > symbol then the book will be correctly selected for playing. We are now adding the "Play" option to the menu so that you can select the book for playing either way.

There are some locations where you end up on a screen and can't find a way to get back (the Android always had the handy BACK button). In these cases you currently have to select something on the screen which will bring up a menu and one of the items on the menu will be back. We will be adding a back button that is visible on these screens.

Many of these user interface problems can be worked around once you figure out what you have to click.

We have also found an issue where the automatic bookmarks are not being created when you move around in the book without pressing the pause button, and an issue where pressing the "Author" tab in the library causes part of the books to be hidden until you select a different tab.

We will release a new version soon with these problems fixed. I appreciate your feedback. Any additional feedback on areas where the iPhone version is not working well would also be appreciated.

As you mentioned this is a version 1.00 release and it has turned out that there are a number of things which are not working correctly. We hope to have addressed most of these issues in the next release.

v1.1 of the iPhone player has been released which fixes the majority of the problems found in the initial iPhone release. This version works much better than the first version did.

v1.1 is now available for download from the Apple App Store for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.

v1.1 does have two known issues. 1) The manual bookmark button does not always save the correct book location (the automatic bookmarks do all work correctly), and 2) the player will not jump to a bookmarked location while it is paused (you have to start playing and then select the bookmark that you want to jump to).

Both of these issues have been fixed in a new version which was submitted to Apple last week and is currently in the queue waiting for Apple's approval to be released. It seems to take Apple 7 to 10 days to approve an update for release, so we are expecting that the version with these bookmark issues fixed should be available around the middle of next week.
