Can't play m4b audiobooks
Current versions of the Android OS do not support playing the .m4b audio format.
For more information about when the .m4b audio format will be supported by the Android OS see http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=3923

There are many utilities available on the internet that can convert m4b files to mp3 files. These can be located by doing a Google search on "convert m4b to mp3" http://www.google.com/search?q=convert+m4b+to+mp3
Please be aware that the m4b format does support DRM (Digitial Rights Management) encryption. Whether the m4b file you have has been encrypted or not depends on where you got the m4b files from. There are many audiobooks in the m4b format which are not encrypted, but are simply in this format because it is the format which provides the best bookmarking support on the iPhone, iPod, and iTunes.
Converting an m4b file, which has not been encrypted with DRM, to an mp3 file is a very simple and straight forward process using any of these utilities that are available on the internet.

There are two types of M4B files. I looked at the old thread linked, and most people commenting don't seem to have a clue.
The iPod needs an AAC file to have the m4B extension to save listening location as well as to show up in the Audibooks section. I think there are some purchased books that come in m4B format ( unlike Audible format which is AA ). Those files cannot be re-named to m4a for playing on Andriod phone as they have DRM applied. Renaming the extension doesn't remove the DRM.
It's also possible to convert audiobooks from CDs for listening on an iPod. When converting you want to save them as AAC encoded files with the m4b extension. iTunes and the iPod will treat it as a book that way. If you want to play that same files on the Android phone.
I've been playing many books of M4B format by just renaming the extension when I move it over to my phone. The only reason to rename them would be the player not choosing to play that extension. If they are m4b and non-DRM they'd play just fine.

For me MelodyCan is the best software for different players. It can remove drm and convert files to different formats. You can try it_))
